Growing up as a minority in New Zealand was a complex and often challenging experience. I was born to Chinese parents and raised in a predominantly white society. From a young age, I felt like an outsider. I didn't look like the other kids in my class, and I didn't share their cultural experiences. I often felt invisible, like I didn't belong.

As I got older, I began to question my identity. Who was I? Was I Chinese or New Zealand? Or was I something in between? I struggled to find my place in a society that seemed to value whiteness above all else. I felt like I had to constantly prove myself, to show that I was just as good as the other kids, even though I looked different.

It wasn't until I went to university that I finally began to feel like I belonged. I met other students who shared my experiences, and I began to learn about the history of racism and discrimination in New Zealand. I realized that I wasn't alone, and that there were others who understood what I was going through.
