In the late 1970s and early 1980s, New York City was in the grip of a crime wave. Organized crime families controlled the city's streets, and their rackets extended from gambling and loansharking to murder and drug trafficking. The NYPD and FBI were outgunned and outmanned, and seemed powerless to stop the mob's reign of terror.

But in 1983, everything changed. The FBI launched a new investigation into the Gambino crime family, and the NYPD created a task force to go after the mob's rackets. Led by a team of determined agents and officers, the investigation soon began to bear fruit. In 1985, John Gotti, the Gambino crime family's boss, was indicted on racketeering charges. And in 1986, Gotti was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Gotti's conviction was a major victory for the FBI and NYPD, and it marked the beginning of the end for organized crime in New York City. In the years that followed, the FBI and NYPD continued to crack down on the mob, and by the early 1990s, organized crime had been virtually eliminated from the city.

Bringing Down the Mob is the inside story of how the FBI and NYPD crushed organized crime in New York City. The book is based on extensive interviews with the agents and officers who led the investigation, and it provides a gripping account of the takedown of some of the most notorious mobsters in history. From John Gotti to Sammy Gravano, Bringing Down the Mob tells the story of the men who risked their lives to bring down the mob.
